With pandemic situation embroiling the whole world, the education system has started to look for online platforms as a mainstream medium. Without any doubt, online education is sure a meaty appetizer as it reduces the number of resources for the institutes to manage. But is online education sustainable especially for India in 2020? Despite the advantages, the lack of resources and exposure to online streams among the masses in India, it is really tough to make It a mainstream.

Benefits of online education :

Firstly, with online education, the burden on children will be minimum. They do not need to go to their schools with heavy bags on their shoulder, travel far distances for the purpose of having lessons in the best school or for tuitions. Moreover, for parents, they can look after their children's education at the same time. So with a handful of items like laptops or mobile with an internet connection, one can avail the education from their homes.

Major Difficulties faced in the implementation of Online education in India

On the other hand, for a country like India where the majority of the population is below the poverty line, it is hard to manage a proper internet connection and computer system. Despite the technology improvements the cell network reception is very poor and for some places, the network itself cannot be found. Over many households, there is no electricity itself and in some places like villages, there is no infrastructure to set up. For such scenarios, we can't even imagine how people can avail online education.

With the education system through physical teaching places like schools, colleges, below the poverty line sector can avail through free education which is run by the government. Education through online is a luxury type of entity for them to handle. Those students who were availing primary education need to have instructors who teach them how to operate the internet or Computer system in the first place. Especially to those whose parents or siblings do not have any knowledge or exposure on computers, smartphones, or the world wide web.

Three months' complete lockdown in India had opened a pandora box where confusion or helplessness is assailing in every household. For companies corresponding to IT dependable work can have their employers to work from home but those from the non-IT sector, they couldn’t do much and had to sit in their homes, fearing their loss of job due to uncertainties in running the business.

Teaching or learning through online platforms or means are huge assets anytime in the world. But without proper planning and infrastructure placed, the online education leads to chaos and ultimately leads to a luxury item like in the past where only a section with privileges can have the education and become a scholar. Especially in India, where illiteracy is at peaks and works where manual labor and hourly workers were of majority.

Om Tutorials point of view :

We at Om Tutorials who have set up online education during the lockdown and had interacted with parents, students, and fellow teachers have come to below realization.

How much ever lucrative it may sound, without a good set up of mobile networks, broadband, and the availability of machines to avail the internet, Online education may not reach the apex it should be in India.
